About the ISG

The Institute for the History of Frankfurt is one of the most important municipal archives in Germany and among Frankfurt’s oldest cultural institutions: Its historical memories go back to the year 1436.

The Institute receives documents from Frankfurt’s City Council whenever they are of historical and legal significance. It collects any documentary material that is important to the history of Frankfurt and then makes it available to the general public under a variety of thematic headings, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

Reading Room

The reading room is open:

Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Due to a technical fault, our lift is currently out of service. The reading room is therefore not accessible to people with disabilities.

On Thursday, September 3 the reading room will not open until 11:30 a.m. due to an internal event.

On Thursday, September 17 the reading room will be closed all day due to an internal event.
